Features

Here is a quick overview of everything Comaney can do.

Recording your money

Expenses, income, and savings Add any money movement as a record: something you spent, money you received, or a transfer to or from savings. Each record can have a title, an amount, a due date, a payee, a category, tags, and a note.

Settle or leave outstanding A record can be "settled" (the money has actually moved) or "unsettled" (you have recorded an upcoming obligation). Mark something unsettled when you know a bill is coming but have not paid it yet.

Recurring bills Set up a scheduled expense once and Comaney creates the records for you automatically on the right dates. Works for any repeat pattern: weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, or any custom interval.

Categories and tags Organise your records in two ways:

  • Categories: one per expense, for broad grouping. Groceries, Housing, Transport.
  • Tags: as many as you like per expense, for flexible cross-cutting labels. Credit card, Amazon, Work, Subscriptions.

The dashboard

Your dashboard is a grid of cards, each showing a different summary of your finances for the current period.

  • Number cards: show a single total, count, or calculated figure. For example: total spending, money left to spend, or number of unpaid bills.
  • Bar charts: show how your spending breaks down across categories or tags, with the biggest bar at the top.
  • Pie charts: show the same breakdown as proportional slices.

Your dashboard already comes with a useful set of default cards. You can rearrange and resize any card by dragging it, or add your own from the built-in preset library. Advanced users can also write their own card configurations.

Search and filtering

The search bar on the expense list lets you find anything quickly. Type a word to search by title, payee, or note. Or use the filter language for more precise queries: filter by type, category, tag, date range, amount, and more. You can combine filters with AND, OR, and NOT logic.

The same filter language works inside dashboard card settings, so you learn it once and use it everywhere.

Catalog Partnerships

Link your tags and categories with a partner's account so that both of you always work with the same labels. Any tag or category either of you creates, renames, or deletes is instantly applied to everyone in the partnership. A short setup wizard maps your existing labels before syncing begins, and an AI suggestion tool helps if you are not sure how your labels should line up.

AI receipt scanning

Take a photo of a receipt or describe a purchase in plain language, and Comaney's AI assistant will extract all the details for you: title, amount, payee, date, category, and tags. You review everything before it is saved, so you are always in control. A typical grocery receipt takes a few seconds instead of several minutes.

Reminders

Turn on notifications for any expense with a due date and Comaney will email you as the date approaches: a few days before, the day before, on the day, and again if it becomes overdue. Once you pay it, you get a confirmation. Every reminder email has a one-click link to mark the expense as settled without even logging in.

Your financial month, your way

If your salary arrives on the 25th, you can set your financial month to run from the 25th to the 24th of the following month. All totals, charts, and the dashboard align to your actual pay cycle rather than the calendar.

End-of-month rollover

Choose what happens to unspent budget at the end of each month:

Option What happens
Do nothing Each month starts fresh. This is the default and works well for most people.
Deposit to savings The leftover is automatically added as a savings deposit record.
Carry over The leftover is added as extra income at the start of next month, increasing your available budget.

Security

Two-factor authentication: add a second login step using a free app on your phone (Google Authenticator, Authy, or any similar app). Even if someone learns your password, they cannot log in without the code from your phone.

Export and API access

Spreadsheet export: download your expenses as a CSV file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

Full data export: download everything in your account as a backup file.

REST API: connect other tools or scripts to your Comaney data using a personal API key. More advanced, but useful if you want to automate imports or build your own reports.

What Comaney does not do

Comaney deliberately keeps its scope narrow. The following are not supported, and that is by design:

  • Bank account or Open Banking integration
  • Importing files from your bank (OFX, CSV, QIF)
  • Multiple currencies
