Unclassified Expenses¶
Some expenses end up without a category, without any tags, or without either. This page collects all of them in one place so you can quickly clean them up.
What counts as "unclassified"?¶
An expense shows up here if it is missing:
- a category, or
- tags, or
- both.
This includes your own expenses, and expenses that someone else paid for where you are one of the people splitting the cost. For a shared expense like that, this page only looks at your own category and tags for it, never the other person's. So a shared expense can show up here for you even if the person who paid for it already gave it a category.
Expenses that record paying someone back (a "settlement") never show up here; there is nothing to categorise on those.
Finding the page¶
Click Unclassified Expenses under the Budget section of the menu. If anything needs your attention, you'll see a red number next to it telling you how many.
Fixing an expense¶
Each row shows the expense's title, what's wrong with it ("Category missing", "Tags missing", or "Category and Tags missing"), its current category, its current tags, and some action buttons.
- Category: click on it to open a dropdown and pick one.
- Tags: click on it to start typing. Matching tags from your own list will pop up; click one to add it. You can add as many as you like, and remove one by clicking the little × on it. Click anywhere else to close it back up.
As soon as you change anything, the changed cell is highlighted, the Edit button disappears, and two new buttons appear:
- Revert throws away your unsaved change and puts the row back the way it was.
- Save writes your change permanently. Once saved, if the expense is now fully classified, it disappears from the list.
The Edit button comes back once you've either saved or reverted, and takes you to the full expense editor (or, for a shared expense, your own personal tags/category editor for it) - saving there brings you right back to this page.
Letting AI do it for you¶
If you don't feel like picking a category or tags yourself, click Let AI solve. Comaney's AI will look at the expense and suggest a category and/or tags for whichever one is missing, choosing only from categories and tags you already have (it won't invent new ones). While it's thinking, the page is temporarily locked so you don't lose track of what's happening.
Once it's done, the button changes to Let AI retry in case you'd like another suggestion, and the same Revert/Save buttons appear as if you'd typed it in yourself - nothing is saved until you click Save.
Using AI here counts against your usual AI usage allowance, the same as everywhere else in Comaney.
Doing it all at once¶
At the bottom of the list:
- Let AI resolve all asks the AI to suggest a classification for every expense on the page that you haven't already started editing.
- Save all appears once at least one row has an unsaved change, and saves everything in one click.
